Mathematics
Our aim at Lache Primary School is to ensure that our pupils become confident and inquisitive mathematicians by the time they our school. We encourage our pupils to adopt an ‘I can’ attitude towards learning maths and we truly value how developing a good grounding and strength in numeracy will help support our children as they progress throughout their education, and into their adult lives.
Intent, Implement and Impact
Power Maths
At Lache Primary School we follow Power Maths scheme which is a UK curriculum mastery programme designed to spark curiosity and excitement and nurture confidence in maths.
Pupil Voice
Maths in EYFS
There are six key areas of early mathematics learning (Cardinality and Counting, Comparison, Composition, Pattern, Shape and Space and Measures) which collectively provide a platform for everything children will encounter as they progress through their maths learning at primary school, and beyond. Please refer to the Development Matters document below for EYFS maths statements.
Maths and SEND
At Lache Primary School, we beleive that explicit and systematic instruction, as well as systematic rehearsal of declarative and procedural knoweldge, are highly effective ways of teaching those children with SEND. ASD children can benefit from memorising core facts and methods to free up thinking time for problem solving. We beleive that scaffolding should be used carefully to avoid dependence and manipulatives should be used to reveal useful information and relationships rather than just as external memory devices.
For more information about how we support our SEND children, please refer to the SEND page on this website.
