Reading
Overview of Reading at Lache Primary School
We KNOW that Reading is the key to the rest of the curriculum, because of this it is one of our main priorities at Lache Primary School.
As our home reading scheme suggests we aim to help children become Readers 4 Life, so that they leave our school with the ability to broaden their own horizons through Reading.

Phonics- Little Wandle
At Lache Primary School we teach phonics using the Little Wandle scheme.
Phonics is taught to all children in Reception and Year 1 at the same time everyday. Children who need additional support in the older year groups will recieve phonics interventions, this is also done through Little Wandle using their Rapid Catch Up interventions.
If you would like to know more about how Little Wandle phonics is taught, please scroll to the bottom of this page and click the file "L&S Powerpoint for Parents".
Alternatively, you could click the following link to visit the Resources for Parents page on the Little Wandle Website.

SEND and Reading:
We believe that targetted teaching is much more beneficial for children with SEND, therefore we ensure that childrens skills and progression are regularly assessed to ensure that the content they are being taught is relevent to their needs.
Pupils with SEND often require much more repition as they learn their GPCs, we ensure that this is constantly revisted during their Phonics and Reading sessions aswell as in their interventions.
If you would like more information about how we support children who have SEND with their Readingg, then please see our SEND section of the website.
